Television

I see television shows as a discussion. A discussion between the writers & directors and their audience. The writers are using actors, sets, props & music to tell us something; much the way we use words. The director is trying to engage the audience and wrap them up in an idea. Some conversations can be crude, materialistic, or negative. I feel that tv shows focus more on these darker themes than anything else. I like to think that tv shows focus on these themes because we as humans are moving past these things ourselves and need the reminder. I also like to think that if I check the back of enough wardrobes I'll find Narnia. I could go on in this manner but I prefer investigating happier thoughts.

Television shows are like conversations. When you strip a show to its bones you get the takeaway message. I find that for me, Glee's takeaway message is; love everyone for who they are, including yourself. They explore this message in most all of their plots; from embracing your homosexuality to knowing that disabilities do not make you a second class citizen. I really like this beautiful message of acceptance and love.

I see movies in very much the same light; I however enjoy the longer discussion brought upon by a television series than I do the quick jab of a movie.

George Takei

In addition to being a cultural icon for Star Trek, and using his name as a synonym for being gay; George Takei is pretty damn awesome. His facebook page is usually the first place I check after logging in. His page is filled with interesting pictures and little comments about that particular picture. A couple things stand out about Mr. Takei: his desire to give young girls a positive role model in Hermione Granger instead of the negative role model of Bella Swan, and his desire to see marriage equality across all of America. He is an incredibly funny and stand up individual. His blogging brightens my day.
